Every year Kellogg Dental and Kellogg Family Foundation host a post-Halloween candy buy back. A dollar per pound is paid out to kids and parents wanting to ditch their candy after Halloween. The program not only reduces the amount of sugar they are consuming, it also donates to a worthy cause. The candy is sent to Operation Gratitude which places the treats in care packages and mails them to soldiers. These service people could be wounded, lonely, or not have a family to send them personal needs items and the comforts of home. The candy is often used as a way to get to know locals in their new living areas; it creates an immediate bond and builds trust.
