National Blood Donor Month

The Kellogg Family Foundation is proud to partner with the American Red Cross. We want to help spread the word about National Blood Donor Month! Every January, the Red Cross celebrates this month to recognize the importance of blood and platelet donors. Let’s start the New Year off right by rolling up our sleeves both this month and throughout the year!

Did you know: National Blood Donor Month has been observed in January since 1970? This month was specifically chosen because winter is one of the most difficult times of year to get enough blood products to meet patient needs. The extreme weather that accompanies the winter season can result in canceled blood drives, and seasonal illnesses can render donors temporarily unable to donate blood.

Help maintain a reliable supply of blood and blood platelet supplies during the winter months! There are three main ways to make an appointment or learn more about blood donation:

  1. Download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App

  2. Visit redcrossblood.org

  3. Call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767)

All blood types are needed!

Make sure to bring your blood donor card, driver’s license, or two other valid forms of ID with you to the donation drive as they are required to check-in. Click here to see if you are eligible to donate blood. If you are eligible to donate, be sure to save time at your next donation by using RapidPass. It lets you complete your pre-donation reading and health history questionnaire online the day you’re donating before you arrive at the blood drive. If you are unable to donate blood, either due to ineligibility or other reasons, there are still ways to help! Financial donations can also help save lives, or you could volunteer your time.

Let’s make 2018 a year when no one has to go without proper medical care. Find your Donation Center and donate blood!
