International Volunteer Day

Today is International Volunteer Day—a day designated by the United Nations to celebrate volunteers around the globe. The United Nations Volunteers founded International Volunteer Day in 1985 to give volunteers and organizations a chance to celebrate their efforts, promote the work they do, and share their values with their communities.

This year, the theme of International Volunteer Day is “Volunteers Build Resilient Communities.” Volunteerism is recognized worldwide, but with a special focus on local community volunteers who contribute to making their communities more resilient against things like natural disasters, economic stresses, and political shocks.

The Kellogg Family Foundation is inspired daily by the individuals and organizations who give their time and skills in an effort to make the world a better place. Today, we’re taking the time to celebrate and recognize those who show selflessness, care, and concern towards their communities and those who need help.

Our organization was built on the philosophy of supporting our local programs and volunteerism to help further our efforts to better both our community and communities around the world. Every day, thousands of people give their time and skills to volunteer organizations to better the world. Today, we celebrate those individuals.

What will you do to recognize and celebrate your community volunteers today?
