The Kellogg Family Foundation works closely with the Red Cross in their efforts to improve and save lives in our community. In 2014, the American Red Cross launched their Home Fire Campaign. Sound the Alarm is a crucial component in this campaign as “every day, seven people die in home fires, most in homes that lack working smoke alarms” (https://www.redcross.org/sound-the-alarm). Red Cross volunteers come together with local fire departments for a series of home fire safety and smoke alarm installation events across the country. These volunteers:
- Canvas at-risk neighborhoods
- Install free smoke alarms
- Replace batteries in existing alarms
- Provide fire prevention and safety education
Over the last three years, the Home Fire Campaign and Sound the Alarm have installed over one million smoke alarms and helped prepare over a million people for a home fire.
